Dan Sullivan Memorial
Our club’s annual event is the “Dan Sullivan Memorial.” Dan Sullivan was a cable car maintenance man in San Francisco and lost his life doing his job. 2011 will mark the 37th year since Dan’s passing and the 37th Dan Sullivan Memorial event. Dan was an avid modeler and focused on scale building and flying. Dan was the kind of guy that always had time to help you out, and would basically do anything for a fellow flyer. The Dan Sullivan Memorial, primary focus is warbird and civilian scale. There is judging of sportsman and expert levels. Flight judging and static judging. Static judging is per AMA standards, color outline, workmanship, etc. There is also flight judging of mandatory maneuvers, including take offs and landings, flight realism, etc. A “Dan Sullivan Award” is given out each year to the flyer who most exemplifies Dan’s spirit. Additionally, we now accept “box top” (ARF) models, versus only kit or scratch built. We also have team scale for one guy builds the other guy flies. As is often the case, in 2010 the event will be a US Scale Masters qualifier.
